A routine school punishment turned fatal for 13-year-old Kajal Gaur, who was forced to do 100 sit-ups for arriving late to class.
The incident occurred in Vasai, where the sixth grader’s condition worsened soon after completing the punishment. Her family said she came home in severe leg pain and was taken to a local hospital before being shifted to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital. Despite treatment, she passed away on November 15.
Police later revealed Kajal’s hemoglobin level was dangerously low at just 4, raising concerns that the harsh punishment may have aggravated her already fragile health. Her parents have filed a complaint, and the school staff involved are now under investigation.
The Education Department has also launched a formal probe, calling the punishment unlawful and a violation of the Right to Education Act, promising strict action against those responsible.
