Deputy Prime Minister Dar has called for a full, in-camera briefing on Pakistan’s worsening security situation and cross-border terrorism. His demand comes after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that Afghan nationals were behind recent attacks in Pakistan.
Naqvi revealed in the Senate and to the media that both the Wana Cadet College suicide attack and the Islamabad Judicial Complex blast were carried out by Afghan citizens. He expressed serious concern over militants moving freely from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
“The people involved in both incidents are from Afghanistan; there is serious concern about this,” Naqvi told senators. He criticized Afghan authorities for not acting against militants despite repeated warnings from Pakistan. Naqvi also noted that Pakistan is expelling undocumented Afghan nationals to disrupt cross-border militant networks.
Following these disclosures, Dar emphasized that parliament should be formally briefed on the security situation and Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan. He suggested that the Defence Ministry and Interior Ministry be summoned for a detailed in-camera briefing.
According to Dar, terrorist attacks in Pakistan have sharply increased since the Taliban took over Afghanistan. “After the Taliban government in Afghanistan, terrorist attacks increased by 650%,” he said, highlighting the growing threat to national security.
Dar also stressed that Pakistan had approached Afghanistan in good faith, requesting action against the banned TTP. “We only asked them not to allow their land to be used against us,” he stated. He noted that Pakistan had allowed Afghan nationals to return safely, with 49,000 people crossing the border, yet attacks continued.
The deputy prime minister supported a full House briefing to ensure lawmakers are informed about security challenges and diplomatic efforts. He emphasized the need for coordinated action between Pakistani institutions to address rising terrorism and cross-border threats.
Dar’s call reflects growing concerns about national security and underscores Pakistan’s efforts to keep parliament updated on critical developments involving Afghanistan and militant activity.
