The Sindh Population Welfare Department has launched a Digital App to provide free and confidential counseling on contraception and reproductive health. The initiative comes in response to an estimated 3.6 million abortions annually in Pakistan and aims to make family planning guidance more accessible.
The Digital App is designed to help couples who hesitate to visit family planning centres due to privacy concerns or societal pressures. Users can receive personalized medical advice, explore modern contraceptive methods, and consult qualified healthcare professionals. The platform also assists individuals experiencing complications related to family planning.
According to Sindh Population Welfare Secretary Hafeezullah Abbasi, the app was developed in collaboration with the World Bank and Pathfinder International. It has been approved by Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho. Currently, the app is undergoing a six-month pilot phase before its full-scale rollout.
Abbasi emphasized that user confidentiality will be strictly maintained. Personal and medical data will be handled securely. The Digital App will also integrate with the department’s electronic data system to help monitor and evaluate reproductive health initiatives across Sindh.
“The app allows married couples to seek guidance from home for minor consultations,” Abbasi said. Users can also locate nearby family planning clinics, view available services, check clinic hours, and get information about healthcare providers.
The platform offers educational content on both short- and long-term contraceptive options, a FAQ section, and a dedicated helpline. It is designed to function offline, ensuring accessibility even in remote or rural areas with limited internet connectivity.
Officials say the Digital App will improve awareness, provide convenient access to reproductive health services, and support couples in making informed decisions. It reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing family planning outreach and promoting safe and responsible reproductive health practices in Sindh.
