The UK government has issued an updated travel advisory for Pakistan, warning British citizens to exercise extreme caution. The advisory comes after a recent explosion in Islamabad and highlights ongoing security risks across the country.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advised that staff at the British High Commission in Islamabad limit movement, reflecting the heightened security situation in the capital. The UK also warned that travel insurance may not be valid if citizens ignore official guidance.
Areas Where Travel Is Not Recommended
The UK advisory highlights several high-risk areas. Travel is strongly discouraged near the Pakistan-India border, with restrictions within five miles of the border. Only the Grand Trunk Highway via the Wagah border is allowed, and it is currently closed.
In Pakistan-administered Kashmir, all travel within 10 miles of the Line of Control is advised against. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province has a full travel ban in multiple districts, including Bajaur, Peshawar, Swat, and North Waziristan. Certain highways, such as the Karakoram Highway and N45 Highway, are also included in the restriction.
The advisory also warns against travel to Balochistan Province, while northern areas of Sindh Province, including Nawabshah, should be avoided. Travel within 10 miles of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border is strongly discouraged.
Safety Measures for British Nationals
The UK recommends that citizens in Pakistan stay indoors whenever possible and maintain a supply of essentials, including food, water, and medicine. Travelers should follow local curfews and monitor media updates. Sudden changes to travel plans may occur, as flights and domestic travel could be suspended during emergencies.
