Irish FA to Call on UEFA to Ban Israel

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has voted overwhelmingly to urge UEFA to suspend the Israel Football Association (IFA) from all European competitions. The move follows growing international pressure over Israel’s conduct in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The motion, proposed by Bohemian FC, received strong backing from clubs across Ireland, with 74 votes in favor and only 7 against. Supporters of the motion argue that UEFA must hold all member associations accountable to its own human rights and fair play principles.

The FAI cited alleged violations by the IFA, including allowing Israeli clubs to operate in occupied Palestinian territories without consent from the Palestinian Football Association. They also raised concerns about racial discrimination and breaches of UEFA statutes.

If approved by UEFA, the ban would prevent Israeli clubs and national teams from competing in tournaments such as the Champions League, Europa League, and European Championships. The decision could have significant political and sporting repercussions.

UEFA has not yet responded to the Irish motion, but officials confirmed that the proposal will be reviewed by the executive committee. A final decision is expected at the next UEFA council meeting in Switzerland.

This marks one of the strongest European-level actions against Israel’s football involvement, as more national associations consider similar moves in solidarity with Palestinian athletes.
