Germany has announced a new development assistance package worth over $131 million to help Pakistan strengthen its climate resilience and energy transition efforts.
The commitment was made during bilateral development cooperation talks held in Islamabad between officials from Pakistan and Germany. The financial package, valued at €114 million ($131.2 million), includes both financial and technical support and will be implemented during the current fiscal year.
The discussions were co-chaired by Muhammad Humair Karim, Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Christine Toetzke, Director-General at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Senior government officials and ambassadors from both sides participated in the session.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the funds will be directed toward renewable energy initiatives, social protection programs, and job creation. The support reflects Germany’s continued commitment to assist Pakistan in tackling climate challenges and promoting sustainable growth.
During the meeting, Pakistani officials highlighted the need to align the new projects with the government’s economic transformation plan, URAAN Pakistan, which focuses on innovation, clean energy, and inclusive development.
Christine Toetzke praised Pakistan’s recent economic reforms and reaffirmed Germany’s intention to remain a long-term partner in helping the country transition to clean energy and build climate resilience.
At the conclusion of the session, both sides signed a Summary Record, formalizing the financial commitments. The next round of bilateral talks between Pakistan and Germany will take place in Berlin in 2027.
