A major discovery has been reported in Pakistan, where gold reserves valued at around $636 billion have been found in the soil of Tarbela Dam. The announcement was made by Hanif Gohar, Chairman of Air Karachi and former senior vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
Speaking at the Karachi Press Club, Gohar said the findings had been formally presented to the Chief of Army Staff. He added that the Army Chief gave a positive response to the briefing. According to Gohar, divers collected soil samples from different areas inside the dam. These samples were later analyzed in laboratories to assess the gold content. Based on the analysis, experts estimated that the total value of gold in Tarbela’s soil could reach $636 billion.
Gohar claimed that this amount could help Pakistan pay off its national debt if properly extracted and managed. He said that he had offered the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) the chance to take charge of the project. However, if WAPDA chooses not to proceed, his company is willing to invest and extract the gold independently before handing it over to the government.
He also shared that his team has already spoken with dredging specialists from Holland and potential partners in Amsterdam and Canada. “We are ready to start work as soon as we receive official approval,” Gohar added.
In addition to the discovery, Gohar announced that Air Karachi will start domestic flight operations on March 23 with three to five Airbus aircraft. The airline plans to expand to international routes after one year.
He further revealed plans to build Hyderabad’s first four-star hotel on a five-acre site. Gohar emphasized that Pakistan’s economy cannot recover without a strong construction sector, noting that Karachi’s business community is currently facing major challenges.
