The heated dispute between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen appears to be easing, as Tareen has stepped forward with a reconciliatory approach.
Ali Tareen has written directly to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, outlining key proposals to improve the governance and operations of the Pakistan Super League.
Commenting on X, Tareen hinted at a shift in approach, saying:
“Although tearing up the notice felt great, it’s time to move on. As the PSL is a national asset, we’re setting grievances aside and seeking a fresh, transparent and trust-based partnership with the board. I have written to the Chairman suggesting four reforms to strengthen PSL management.”
His recommendations focus on improving structure, communication, and franchise participation in decision-making. Tareen believes recent conflicts stem from ad hoc practices and a lack of transparency, and says his proposals aim to rebuild trust among franchises and fans.
His letter centers on four major reforms:
- Franchise Representation: Formal inclusion of franchises on all PSL committees to ensure decisions on scheduling, marketing, ticketing, match operations, and player matters are truly collaborative.
- Hiring Input: Franchise involvement in the recruitment of key PSL officials—from job design to final selection—to ensure credible, merit-based appointments.
- Professional Structure: Establishing a depoliticized, professionally run PSL management system with defined departments and an empowered executive team instead of a personality-driven setup.
- Transparency & Accountability: Monthly meetings, documented agendas, action tracking, and consistent reporting from PSL management to franchises.
Tareen expressed willingness to reset ties “in a spirit of partnership and shared responsibility,” as long as the PCB addresses the reforms sincerely.
