CTD Arrests Two Killers Linked to Zainebiyoun Brigade

The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested two suspected target killers reportedly linked to the banned Zainebiyoun Brigade (ZB) during an intelligence-based operation in Karachi.

According to CTD officials, the suspects were detained for their alleged involvement in sectarian killings and other criminal activities. The arrests were confirmed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of CTD Sindh, Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, during a press conference held on Thursday.

The DIG identified the accused as Israr Hussain Gilgiti and Masoom Raza, also known by the alias Imran Mota. Both individuals were arrested following credible intelligence about their movements in Karachi. The operation was conducted with precision to prevent any resistance or escape attempt.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the detained men had ties to the Zainebiyoun Brigade, a proscribed outfit known for carrying out sectarian-motivated attacks in Pakistan. Officials believe the group has been trying to reactivate its network in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

DIG Mahesar stated that weapons and other materials were recovered from the suspects, which will be sent for forensic analysis. He added that further investigations are underway to identify additional members of the network and their handlers.

Security analysts note that Karachi has remained a sensitive zone for sectarian tensions, and the recent operation highlights the CTD’s ongoing efforts to dismantle extremist cells before they can strike again.

Authorities have intensified intelligence-based operations in urban centers following reports of increased activity by banned organizations. The latest arrests are being seen as a major success for Sindh’s counterterrorism strategy.

In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently met with top industrialists to strengthen Pakistan’s economy and attract new investments. Security and stability, officials say, remain essential components of the government’s broader development vision.

DIG Mahesar reiterated that the CTD remains committed to ensuring Karachi’s security and will continue pursuing all networks linked to terrorism and sectarian violence. He urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
