The federal government has officially announced that the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) project will be completed by 2028, setting a clear timeline for one of Pakistan’s most important infrastructure developments.
According to officials, the project a key section of the Karachi–Peshawar Motorway (KPM) is expected to enhance connectivity between northern and southern regions of Sindh and boost trade and travel efficiency. The M-6 Motorway will link Sukkur to Hyderabad, reducing travel time significantly and improving road safety for commuters and cargo transport.
Authorities confirmed that work is progressing at multiple construction sites simultaneously. The government has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) and partner contractors to ensure timely completion without compromising quality and safety standards.
Officials added that the motorway project will feature modern infrastructure, including service areas, emergency response units, and intelligent traffic management systems. Once completed, it will serve as a vital route for goods movement from Karachi’s ports to the rest of the country.
The Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway is also expected to generate employment opportunities during its construction phase and support local economies along the route. Economists believe the project will play a crucial role in improving logistics efficiency, reducing vehicle wear and tear, and cutting fuel consumption due to smoother traffic flow.
A senior NHA official stated that the 2028 deadline reflects the government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development and regional integration. He assured that progress reports will be shared regularly to maintain transparency and public confidence in the project’s advancement.
This development aligns with the federal government’s broader goal to modernize Pakistan’s highway network, strengthen economic corridors, and promote sustainable transportation systems.
