Shubman Gill celebrated his first major success as India’s Test captain after leading his side to a 2-0 series victory over the West Indies. India clinched the second Test in Delhi by seven wickets, completing a clean sweep and marking a strong start to Gill’s captaincy career.
In the final Test, India comfortably chased down a target of 121 runs, with KL Rahul guiding the innings through an unbeaten 58. Earlier in the match, captain Gill led from the front with a brilliant 129 not out in the first innings, showcasing his consistency and calm leadership on the field.
India’s bowling attack once again dominated the series. Kuldeep Yadav starred as the leading wicket-taker, supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who maintained tight control throughout the matches. Their spin partnership ensured that the West Indies batters struggled to build partnerships.
The West Indies had moments of resistance, particularly in the second Test’s first innings, where Shai Hope and John Campbell scored centuries. However, their efforts weren’t enough to stop India’s strong comeback in the following sessions.
In the first Test held in Ahmedabad, India had won by an innings and 140 runs, setting the tone for the series. Gill’s composed leadership and India’s depth in both batting and bowling helped them dominate across all departments.
Speaking after the victory, Gill said he was still “getting used to the role” but credited the entire team for making his job easier. The young skipper also praised India’s bowlers and expressed pride in the team’s collective effort.
This series win not only marks a new chapter in Shubman Gill’s journey as captain but also reinforces India’s dominance in home Test conditions.
