South Africa were bowled out for 269 in their first innings against Pakistan during the opening Test match in Lahore. The visitors struggled to maintain momentum after a steady start, handing Pakistan a 109-run first-innings lead.
The South African innings began on a positive note, but Pakistan’s spinners quickly took control. Noman Ali was the standout performer, claiming six wickets for 112 runs. His consistent line and length troubled the batters throughout the morning session. Sajid Khan supported him well with three wickets, while Salman Ali Agha chipped in with one.
Resuming at 216 for 6, South Africa managed to add only 53 runs before losing their remaining wickets. The lower order failed to resist Pakistan’s spin attack as Noman Ali wrapped up the tail with ease.
South African opener Tony de Zorzi offered the only real resistance, scoring a composed 104 off 171 balls. His century kept the visitors in the contest for a while, but a lack of partnerships at the other end hurt their total. None of the middle-order batters managed to cross 30 runs, leaving de Zorzi stranded with minimal support.
The Pakistani bowlers dominated the innings, using the turning pitch to their advantage. Their disciplined performance helped the home side maintain control of the match. Pakistan’s spinners kept the pressure on, forcing South Africa into mistakes and quick dismissals.
With a strong lead in hand, Pakistan will now look to extend their advantage when they return to bat in the second innings. The hosts appear confident, while South Africa will need a much-improved batting effort to stay in the game.
