LAHORE: Police have arrested a man accused of faking a robbery to steal money from his employer. The Lari Adda Police made the arrest after uncovering major contradictions in the suspect’s account during an investigation.
According to officials, the suspect, Kalar Ismail, called the police helpline claiming that two armed men had robbed him of Rs. 531,500, money he said belonged to his employer. However, upon closer examination, investigators found inconsistencies in his statement and took him in for further questioning.
During interrogation, Ismail confessed to fabricating the robbery story to keep the cash for himself. He had hidden Rs. 510,000 in a locker at the shop where he worked. The recovered money was later returned to the employer.
Police said the suspect staged the fake incident to divert suspicion and falsely report the theft. A spokesperson added that the bogus call wasted police resources and caused unnecessary alarm.
Legal action has been initiated against Kalar Ismail under laws related to filing false reports and attempted fraud.
