US to Impose 25% Tariffs on Heavy Trucks Starting November 1

US President Donald Trump announced that a 25% tariff on imported medium and heavy-duty trucks will take effect from November 1, 2025 — delaying the earlier date he had threatened.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “Beginning November 1, 2025, all Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks entering the United States from other countries will face a 25% tariff.”

Meanwhile, China has urged the US to remove what it called “unreasonable” tariffs to create fair conditions for expanding bilateral trade. A spokesperson for China’s commerce ministry made the remarks in September when asked about potential soybean purchases from the US.

In a separate move, the Chinese commerce ministry launched an investigation into Mexico’s trade measures and tariffs imposed on Chinese goods. The inquiry covers Mexico’s recent plans to raise import duties on Chinese automobiles, auto parts, textiles, toys, and other products, along with additional trade and investment restrictions.

Mexico, however, clarified that its decision to apply 50% tariffs on Chinese-made cars was not targeted specifically at China. The investigation is expected to conclude within six months but could be extended if necessary.

At the White House, economic adviser Kevin Hassett said Washington has made “enormous progress” in trade negotiations with Beijing, though he acknowledged that substantial work still lies ahead.
