Pakistan Railways has announced a revision in ticket fares for its Lahore–Rawalpindi route, with the changes taking effect immediately. The increase impacts two popular services, the Subak Kharam and Subak Raftar railcars, both widely used by passengers traveling between the two major cities.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, the fares have been raised in the range of Rs. 150 to Rs. 250, depending on the class. The official added that passengers will now receive refreshments during the journey, which is included in the revised fare structure. The decision aims to improve travel facilities while addressing rising operational costs.
The new fare schedule sets AC Parlor tickets at Rs. 2,500, AC Business at Rs. 2,250, AC Standard at Rs. 2,100, and Economy Class at Rs. 1,300. Officials emphasized that despite the fare hike, the train service remains an affordable and convenient option for passengers compared to alternative modes of transport.
Railways authorities further noted that the revision was necessary to maintain service standards and provide additional amenities to travelers. They assured that efforts are being made to improve punctuality, comfort, and overall passenger experience on the Lahore–Rawalpindi route, one of the busiest rail corridors in the country.
The announcement has drawn mixed reactions, with some passengers welcoming the added refreshments while others expressed concern over rising travel costs. Nonetheless, Pakistan Railways maintains that the fare adjustment is a balanced measure designed to sustain quality services without imposing an excessive burden on travelers.
