PM Shehbaz Directs Swift Relief And Rehabilitation For Flood Victims

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to speed up relief and rehabilitation work for flood victims. He emphasized that he will not rest until every affected family is fully supported and rehabilitated.

The directive came soon after PM Shehbaz addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Following his speech, he chaired a key review meeting through video link to assess the latest flood situation.

Chief Secretaries from all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, attended the session. The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) presented a detailed report on ongoing relief efforts.

According to the NDMA, around 350,000 people have already returned home from relief camps. However, some families in Sindh still remain in temporary shelters. Officials noted that floodwaters are receding quickly, which will help more people return soon.

Relief packages, food, and basic assistance are being provided to the victims. The Punjab government was specifically praised for its effective rehabilitation measures.

The meeting also reviewed crop damage and the challenges faced by farmers. PM Shehbaz instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive damage report within a week. The findings will help shape recovery plans for agriculture and rural communities.

On infrastructure, the Prime Minister ordered the National Highway Authority (NHA) to repair the damaged section of the M-5 motorway at Jalalpur Pirwala. He further directed quick action to restore other affected roads and ensure smooth transport links.

Health concerns were also highlighted. PM Shehbaz called for urgent steps to control water-borne diseases in flood-hit areas. He stressed that timely medical response is vital to prevent outbreaks.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has been tasked with holding regular review meetings. The NDMA has also been directed to provide full support to provinces and their disaster management authorities.
