A tragic traffic accident in the Dhanasar area of Dera Ismail Khan claimed the lives of 11 family members on Friday.
The accident occurred when a vehicle traveling from Khanozai, Balochistan, to Dera Ismail Khan experienced brake failure on a steep stretch of the road. Seven people, including five women, one man, and a child, died instantly at the scene. Rescue teams shifted the bodies to the hospital after completing necessary formalities.
Rescue 1122 officials reached the site immediately and began relief operations. Three injured passengers received first aid at the scene before being taken to the District Headquarters Hospital. Four critically injured family members, transported to the hospital through local assistance, later succumbed to their injuries, raising the total death toll to 11.
The victims included men, women, and children, making this one of the deadliest road tragedies in Dera Ismail Khan in recent months. Local authorities confirmed that all victims belonged to the same family.
Among the injured were Darya Khan, Ahmed, and 10-year-old Yousuf. They were stabilized at the hospital, and their condition was later reported as stable by medical staff. Rescue 1122 confirmed that seven bodies were shifted by rescue teams, while four were transported with local help.
Officials urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on steep and challenging routes. They emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly brakes, to prevent similar accidents. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the brake failure.
