Punjab Introduces Electro Bus Service Expansion To Another District

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated Sahiwal’s first electric bus service, offering residents of Punjab a modern and eco-friendly transport option. The launch took place on Monday and was attended by Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan along with senior officials.

During the ceremony, the chief minister took a test ride on the new buses. Crowds gathered along the route to welcome the service, showing strong public interest in this new initiative.

In its first phase, 16 electric buses will run on four key routes in Sahiwal. These routes include Arifwala Bypass to Sarwar Chowk, Noor Shah to KFC Bypass, Farid Town to Yousafwala, and General Bus Stand to Kamir. Officials estimate that more than 25,000 people will use the service every day.

The fare has been set at Rs. 20 per stop, keeping it affordable for daily commuters. Each bus is fitted with modern features such as Wi-Fi, mobile charging points, and CCTV cameras. A separate section has been reserved for women passengers. In addition, a charging station has been set up in the city to support smooth operations.

According to provincial authorities, this project is part of a broader plan to modernize public transport across Punjab. The aim is to provide affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly travel options to citizens in multiple cities.

The government emphasized that expanding such services will reduce pollution and promote sustainable urban mobility. Officials added that the success of Sahiwal’s launch will pave the way for more electric buses in other districts of Punjab in the near future.

This step reflects the province’s commitment to building modern infrastructure and ensuring that public transport keeps pace with the needs of a growing population.
