South Africa Unveils Squads for Pakistan Tour

South Africa have announced squads for their upcoming tour of Pakistan, with skipper Temba Bavuma ruled out due to a calf strain picked up in England. The 35-year-old will miss six to eight weeks, leaving Aiden Markram to lead the Test team.

The major highlight is Quinton de Kock’s comeback, as the wicketkeeper-batter has reversed his ODI retirement and been included in both the ODI and T20I squads. Off-spinner Simon Harmer also returns to the Test side, joining Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subrayen, while Keshav Maharaj will be available only from the second Test after recovering from injury.

In white-ball cricket, South Africa have rested most of their all-format players. David Miller will captain the T20Is, while Matthew Breetzke leads the ODIs. Before Pakistan, the Proteas will play a T20I in Namibia, captained by Donovan Ferreira, to inaugurate a new stadium in Windhoek.

Head coach Shukri Conrad said the focus is on Bavuma’s recovery ahead of the India tour in November, adding that the squad has enough subcontinent experience to adapt to spin-friendly conditions.

South Africa’s Pakistan tour includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, forming part of preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
