Punjab Begins Second Phase Of Its Green Tractor Initiative

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the second phase of the Green Tractor Scheme to support local farmers. The initiative aims to distribute 9,500 tractors to eligible farmers across the province.

The tractors were allocated through a draw system, and Nawaz personally called several winners to congratulate them. According to the Punjab Agriculture Department, the scheme will eventually provide a total of 20,000 tractors to farmers throughout the province.

Farmers who own seven acres or more are eligible for tractors ranging from 75 to 125 horsepower. High-powered models will receive a government subsidy of Rs. 1 million, while medium-powered tractors will get Rs. 500,000.

The scheme has received strong interest from the farming community. Out of 734,000 applications submitted, 282,000 farmers were found eligible for the draw. Notably, nearly 98 percent of applicants requested locally manufactured tractors, reflecting growing confidence in domestic production.

Maryam Nawaz said the program is designed to reduce the financial burden on farmers and provide modern machinery to rural areas. She added that the Green Tractor Scheme is part of broader efforts to increase agricultural productivity and strengthen Punjab’s economy.

Officials highlighted that the initiative will help farmers increase efficiency, boost crop yields, and modernize agriculture practices across Punjab. The program also underscores the provincial government’s commitment to supporting rural communities and promoting mechanization in farming.

The Green Tractor Scheme continues to be a vital part of Punjab’s strategy to empower farmers, enhance agricultural output, and provide resources that contribute to long-term economic growth.
