The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly rejected the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) request to remove match referee Andy Pycroft from the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 following the handshake controversy during the Pakistan-India match in Dubai.
The PCB had filed a complaint citing Pycroft’s alleged violations of the ICC Code of Conduct and MCC Laws on the Spirit of Cricket, after he reportedly instructed captains Suryakumar Yadav and Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands due to political tensions.
Separately, the PCB suspended Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla amid controversies surrounding his decisions, a move criticized by the Pakistan team. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi condemned the lack of sportsmanship, emphasizing that political interference contradicts the spirit of cricket.
Naqvi reaffirmed the board’s commitment to discipline, professionalism, and safeguarding the country’s cricketing prestige. A permanent replacement for Wahla has not yet been announced, though a new director is expected to be appointed soon.
