Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani said on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was pursuing the “dangerous illusion” of turning the Arab world into Israel’s sphere of influence.
Speaking at the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, the emir condemned Israel’s war on Gaza as a “war of extermination” and denounced the air strike on Qatar as a “blatant, treacherous, cowardly act.”
Leaders from across the Muslim world gathered in Doha following the strike, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging accountability for Israel’s “war crimes, including genocide.” He voiced Pakistan’s support for suspending Israel’s UN membership and backed Qatar against Israeli aggression.
Other leaders, including those from Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, and Malaysia, echoed calls for collective action, stressing that mere condemnations were not enough. Turkish President Erdogan accused Israel of trying to drag the region into chaos, while Egypt’s President Sisi warned Israel had “crossed all red lines.”
The summit, held jointly under the Arab League and OIC, aims to increase pressure on Israel over Gaza, with participants urging tougher measures, including punitive actions and stronger collective security. Qatar said the world must abandon double standards and hold Israel accountable for its crimes.
