A resolution demanding a permanent TikTok Ban has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly. The resolution was moved by opposition lawmaker Farrukh Javed, according to official sources.
The document accuses TikTok of promoting vulgarity and obscenity, especially through its live chat feature. It claims that the platform encourages inappropriate conversations among young users, including children, and exposes them to immoral behavior.
According to the resolution, TikTok is drawing the younger generation into a culture of cheap fame and quick money. Lawmakers warned that this trend poses serious risks to Pakistan’s societal values. They stressed that such practices are not acceptable in an Islamic society and must be addressed firmly.
The resolution urged the provincial assembly to request the federal government to impose a permanent TikTok Ban. It emphasized the need to safeguard children and youth from what it described as moral decline. The move aims to protect the nation’s cultural and religious fabric.
Supporters of the proposal argue that TikTok’s influence has shifted focus away from education and personal development, creating harmful habits among young people. They believe that banning the app would curb the spread of content that undermines cultural traditions and religious values.
At the same time, the issue has sparked debate on social media regulation in Pakistan. While some voices back the complete TikTok Ban, others suggest stricter monitoring and improved content control as a better alternative.
The Punjab Assembly is expected to review and debate the resolution in upcoming sessions. If passed, it may be forwarded to the federal government for final consideration.
