INDIA – A shocking incident unfolded in Jabbar Colony, Moradabad, where a 23-year-old mother placed her 15-day-old baby inside a refrigerator.
According to Indian media, the woman, distressed by the infant’s constant crying and inability to sleep, put him in the fridge before going to rest in another room. The child was later discovered by his grandmother, who rushed him to a hospital after hearing his cries. Doctors confirmed that the baby is safe and out of danger.
When questioned, the mother reportedly said, “The baby was not sleeping, so I put him in the fridge.” Medical experts later diagnosed her with postpartum depression, a condition that can trigger drastic behavioral and emotional changes in new mothers, often affecting their ability to care for their children.
The case has drawn attention to the need for greater awareness of maternal mental health, with specialists stressing that postpartum depression requires timely medical and psychological intervention to protect both mother and child.
