Left-arm pacer Waqas Maqsood has announced his retirement from international cricket, closing a chapter that included both a brief stint with Pakistan and an impressive domestic career spanning more than a decade.
Maqsood made his international debut in November 2018 in a T20 International against New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. He became the 80th cricketer to represent Pakistan in T20 cricket. In his only appearance, he bowled 1.5 overs and picked up 2 wickets, leaving a small yet memorable mark on the international stage.
Born in Faisalabad, Waqas Maqsood established himself as a consistent performer in domestic cricket from 2011 to 2023. Over his career, he featured in 81 first-class matches, 56 List A games, and 68 T20 matches. His left-arm pace brought balance to many domestic sides, and his steady performances eventually earned him a place in Pakistan’s national squad.
While his international career was limited to just one match, his domestic record reflects dedication and skill. Many in Pakistan’s cricket community regard him as a reliable bowler who delivered across formats, even though international opportunities remained scarce.
At 37, Maqsood has now stepped away from international cricket, joining the list of Pakistan players who enjoyed long domestic careers but limited international runs. His journey highlights the challenges many cricketers face—excelling locally but struggling to break through consistently at the international level.
Waqas Maqsood leaves the game with respect for his domestic achievements and the pride of having worn the national colors, even if only briefly. His career will be remembered for commitment, persistence, and his contributions to Pakistan’s cricketing structure.
