Usman Shinwari, Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler, has announced his retirement from international cricket after a career spanning from 2013 to 2019. He represented Pakistan in one Test, 17 ODIs, and 16 T20Is, making his debut in all three formats against Sri Lanka. He was also part of the Pakistan squad for the 2018 Asia Cup.
Throughout his career, Usman Shinwari showcased his skills with notable performances. He took a total of one wicket in Tests, 34 in ODIs, and 13 in T20Is. His most memorable moments came in ODIs, where he claimed two five-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka — 5-34 in Sharjah (2017) and 5-51 in Karachi (2019). These spells remain a highlight of his international journey.
His retirement comes shortly after batter Asif Ali also stepped away from international cricket. Asif, who featured in 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is, scored 959 runs with three half-centuries and played in the 2018 Asia Cup, the 2019 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, and the T20 World Cups of 2021 and 2022.
Usman Shinwari, now 31, leaves behind a career that, though brief, had moments of brilliance and impact for Pakistan cricket. His bowling spells and contributions will be remembered as part of the team’s efforts during a crucial period.
