Torrential rains in Karachi have triggered several tragic incidents, claiming 16 lives, rescue officials confirmed.
In North Karachi’s Sector A-53, a man died after suffering an electric shock at home, while in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 12, five people were killed when a house wall collapsed.
In Orangi Town, Sector 11.5, near Khalil Market, a child lost their life in another wall collapse. A person in Defence Phase 6, near Bara Bukhari, also died of electrocution on the street.
Rescue teams reported further casualties: one person was killed in a fire near Malir-15 petrol pump, while another died of electrocution near the Shahrah-e-Faisal post office. Two brothers, 19-year-old Murad Khan and 10-year-old Siraj, also died of electrocution in Shah Faisal Colony.
Additionally, bodies of drowning victims were recovered from drains in New Karachi, the Site Super Highway, and Gulshan-e-Mimar’s Northern Bypass. Another electrocution death was confirmed in Defence Phase 6.
Overall, the heavy downpour has led to electrocutions, drownings, and structural collapses, bringing the rain-related death toll in Karachi to 16.
