Ravi, Indus Rivers Face Flood Threat After India Releases Water

The Ravi River is facing rising water levels after India released 150,000 cusecs of water into Pakistan. This has caused flood concerns in parts of Punjab and Sindh.

In Lahore, about 26,000 cusecs of water is flowing in the Ravi River towards Shahdara. This has created a low-level flood situation. Authorities have evacuated settlements near the Ravi as a precaution. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is on high alert.

In Narowal, the Ravi River’s water flow has reached 52,272 cusecs and is still rising. Several villages including Bustan, Mandikhel, Kothe, and Dudhe have been flooded. Relief camps have been set up on riverbanks to help the affected families.

A farmer who was spraying his rice crop got caught in the sudden floodwaters. Luckily, his elder brother and local helpers rescued him safely.

Meanwhile, in Sindh, water inflows at the Guddu and Sukkur Barrages on the Indus River have surged to alarming levels. The irrigation department reported 360,769 cusecs at Guddu and 285,785 cusecs at Sukkur. This has led to low to moderate flood warnings.

Officials expect moderate flooding at Guddu Barrage within 72 hours and low-level flooding at Sukkur Barrage within 24 hours. Authorities are closely watching the situation to avoid damage to nearby villages and farmlands.

District administrations in affected areas have been asked to stay ready for emergencies. Rescue teams, flood relief camps, and medical support are in place to respond quickly if conditions worsen.

The rising water levels in the Ravi River highlight the need for caution. Officials continue working to protect communities and reduce flood damage risks.
