OGDC Quadruples Oil Production at Punjab Well After ESP Installation

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has achieved a major increase in oil production at its Rajian-05 well in Punjab.

Located in the Chakwal District, the Rajian-05 well is part of the Rajian Field, which has been operational since August 1994. OGDCL, the country’s leading exploration and production firm, owns and operates the field under the Gujar Khan Exploration License.

Following a planned workover and the installation of an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), the well’s oil output surged significantly. Production rose from 820 barrels per day (BPD) to an impressive 3,100 BPD. This marks a nearly fourfold increase in daily oil production.

Gas output at the well also improved. It doubled from 0.5 million to 1.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). These results showcase the success of OGDCL’s ongoing efforts to boost production through modern recovery methods.

This is not the first time ESP technology has been used at the Rajian Field. Two other wells in the field had already been completed using the same technology. The results from Rajian-05 further validate the company’s strategy of upgrading older wells to increase efficiency.

The redevelopment of the well aligns with OGDCL’s broader goals. The company is focused on maximizing domestic energy production and reducing reliance on imported oil. By enhancing output from existing fields, OGDCL is playing a key role in supporting Pakistan’s energy needs.

This increase in oil and gas production also contributes to national energy security. It reflects OGDCL’s commitment to using available resources wisely and investing in proven technologies.

The successful upgrade of Rajian-05 is a strong example of how targeted interventions can yield big results in mature fields. It reinforces the importance of innovation in the oil sector for sustainable growth. The recent production boost at Rajian-05 comes as concerns grow over rising energy costs. According to the OCAC, new levies could increase oil prices by over 80%, adding urgency to enhance domestic output.
