Trump, Netanyahu Seek Common Ground on Gaza Truce and Post-War Plan

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday to discuss a potential framework for ending the war in Gaza. U.S. officials say Trump aims to align with Netanyahu on a post-war strategy following renewed momentum in ceasefire talks.

The meeting comes as negotiators from Israel and Hamas, with Qatari and Egyptian mediation, resumed talks in Doha. A proposed agreement under discussion includes a 60-day truce and the release of 10 living and 18 deceased Israeli hostages. Trump hopes the deal could act as a springboard for broader regional peace, but Netanyahu remains cautious about formally ending the conflict.

A central point in the talks will be determining who governs Gaza after the war. Trump seeks clarity on security arrangements that prevent Hamas from regaining influence, while Netanyahu has ruled out both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority as governing entities. Instead, he proposes local Palestinian leadership under Arab country supervision — a stance rejected by key regional players like Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Israel has reportedly softened some conditions, now open to expelling only a small number of top Hamas commanders and possibly granting amnesty to militants who disarm. Still, its core demand remains the full dismantling of Hamas’ military wing.

Meanwhile, international pressure is mounting for a long-term resolution based on a two-state solution. However, Netanyahu’s administration continues to reject this path, maintaining its opposition to both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority as part of any future governance in Gaza.
