Australia batsman Steve Smith will return for the second Test against the West Indies in Grenada, captain Pat Cummins confirmed on Wednesday. This marks a key comeback for Australia after Smith missed the first match due to a finger injury.

Smith suffered a dislocated right little finger during the World Test Championship final last month. Despite the injury, he has recovered well enough to play in the upcoming match, which starts on Thursday. Smith will wear a protective splint on his finger for five weeks while continuing to participate in the series.

Captain Cummins said Smith completed a 30-minute batting session and some catching drills without any problems. “He’s ready to go. The finger held up well,” Cummins told reporters. “He was really happy, particularly batting.”

Steve Smith will replace Josh Inglis, who scored just five and 12 runs in the first Test. Inglis was the only change to Australia’s playing XI after their 159-run victory in the opening match held in Barbados.

Steve Smith is expected to resume his usual position at number four in the batting order. His return adds strength to Australia’s lineup, providing experience and skill in the middle order.

Australia’s confirmed XI for the second Test includes Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood.

Smith’s comeback is a positive boost for Australia as they aim to build on their strong performance in the first Test. The West Indies will host the match in Grenada, hoping to bounce back after their loss.

As one of Australia’s key batsmen, Steve Smith’s presence is vital for the team’s success. Fans and teammates alike will be watching closely to see how he performs after returning from injury.
