Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a follow-up meeting of the steering committee on sugar import on Tuesday, reaffirming the government’s decision to import 500,000 metric tonnes of sugar.
The import will be carried out through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and the private sector, as agreed in earlier discussions. The move aims to maintain a steady supply of essential commodities and stabilize prices for consumers across the country.

During the meeting, the deputy prime minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of key food items at affordable rates.
The session was attended by Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Chief Secretaries from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan, as well as Secretaries of Food Security and Industries, along with other senior officials from federal and provincial governments.
