Elon Musk Threatens to Launch New Political Party Over Trump’s Spending Bill

WASHINGTON – Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has sparked political shockwaves by threatening to launch a new political movement, the “America Party,” if President Donald Trump’s massive domestic spending bill passes Congress.

In a series of posts on his social media platform, X, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO lashed out at the Republican-backed legislation, describing it as “insane spending” and warning that it would push the national debt ceiling up by a record $5 trillion.

Musk accused both major U.S. parties of forming a “Democrat-Republican uniparty,” asserting that the bill exemplifies bipartisan fiscal irresponsibility. “It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill… that we live in a one-party country — the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk wrote on X, referencing Trump’s legislative initiative with disdain.

He continued: “Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people. If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.”

The comments come as the Senate races to pass the controversial bill before the July 4 deadline. The sweeping domestic package includes major tax cuts, infrastructure subsidies, and increased defense spending, drawing criticism from both progressive Democrats and now, notably, one of the GOP’s most prominent business allies.

Musk, once aligned with Trump and previously tapped to lead the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency, has become increasingly critical of the former president’s economic direction. His break with Trump became especially public in recent weeks, coinciding with intensified legislative debate.

The White House responded lightly, suggesting Musk’s fury may be tied to proposed provisions in the bill that phase out federal subsidies for electric vehicles, a key pillar of Tesla’s profitability. President Trump told Fox News: “I think Elon is a wonderful guy, and I know he’s going to do well, always. He’s a smart guy.”

However, Musk doubled down on his threat, warning Republican lawmakers: “They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.

Musk has floated the idea of forming a third party before, most recently polling his followers about it on June 5. His latest remarks, however, signal a more serious tone, as he positions himself against the political establishment just ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Political analyst Danielle McBride of the Washington Institute noted that Musk’s increasing criticism of the GOP could deepen internal divisions. “This is not just noise. Musk holds extraordinary influence over a segment of younger, tech-driven conservatives,” she said. “His disavowal of Trump’s bill and broader GOP policy could have tangible consequences.”

The proposed “America Party” is expected to focus on fiscal restraint, deregulation, and shrinking the federal government—principles Musk has long advocated. Yet critics argue that Musk’s political positions have often been inconsistent, with endorsements and opinions shifting across the spectrum.

Despite skepticism about his follow-through, Musk’s latest remarks have reignited debate over the role of billionaires in American politics, and whether wealth and influence can effectively challenge the traditional two-party system.

Meanwhile, Senate lawmakers remain locked in negotiations, with a final vote on the spending bill expected later this week. The outcome may not only shape America’s fiscal future—but determine whether Musk’s “America Party” becomes a political reality or another provocative tweetstorm.
