Pakistani Defense Minister Rejects Support for Any U.S. Policies Against National Interests

ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has asserted that Pakistan’s national interests will remain paramount amid growing international pressure related to the Abraham Accords, emphasizing that the country will act in ways that uphold its independence and sovereignty.

In a recent television interview, Asif addressed speculation suggesting Islamabad could be urged to normalize relations with Israel under the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords. “We will respond when such a proposal is officially presented,” he said. “Pakistan will not support any foreign initiative that compromises our sovereignty or core interests.”

The Abraham Accords, initiated in 2020, led to diplomatic normalization between Israel and several Arab states, including the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s independent foreign policy, Asif also acknowledged U.S. support in international financial institutions. He confirmed that Pakistan had nominated then-President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize at the time, calling it a calculated diplomatic move.

Turning to regional tensions, the defence minister issued a stern warning to India, declaring any interference with Pakistan’s water resources as a “red line.” “If our water is blocked, it will be considered an act of war,” he warned.

Reflecting on past military confrontations, Asif highlighted Pakistan’s firm response to Indian airstrikes as a moment of national pride. He expressed gratitude to China for its unwavering diplomatic support and commended the role of Pakistani media during national crises.
