Bilawal Bhutto Leads Pakistan Delegation to UN, Warns of Regional Escalation Amid India Tensions

Pakistan has stepped up its diplomatic outreach at the United Nations, with a high-level delegation led by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari meeting UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York. The visit follows escalating tensions between Pakistan and India after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, with India accusing Pakistan of involvement—claims Islamabad has firmly denied.

During the meeting, Bilawal presented a letter from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and conveyed Pakistan’s concerns over India’s alleged unprovoked military actions, including attacks on civilians and suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He warned that such unilateral steps risk destabilizing the region and could set a dangerous precedent.

Bilawal emphasized Pakistan’s restrained and responsible approach in the face of provocation and reiterated the country’s commitment to international law and the UN Charter. He called on the UN to play a more proactive role in promoting peace, urging Secretary-General Guterres to facilitate dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

The UN chief appreciated Pakistan’s call for peace and reaffirmed the organization’s support for de-escalation and diplomacy. He assured the delegation that the UN remains committed to helping resolve regional disputes through peaceful means.
