Babar Azam Says Only Efforts Can Help Regain Form After Stellar Knock Falls Short

Rawalpindi — Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam on Sunday acknowledged that only persistent effort could help him regain his peak form, after his brilliant 94-run innings went in vain during their recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 match against Karachi Kings.

Speaking at a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Babar emphasized the importance of adapting to pitch conditions, especially when bowling first. “It’s an art to read the pitch and understand its behavior,” he said.

Azam also welcomed the return of international players to the tournament, following a brief suspension of matches due to heightened regional tensions. “Despite the short break in PSL X, it’s commendable to see foreign players returning to complete the season,” he noted.

Reflecting on his form, Babar said he takes responsibility for his dismissals. “It’s not always a brilliant ball that gets me out. Often, it’s my own mistakes,” he admitted. He added that even small innings could help him rebuild momentum. “Sometimes, scoring just 20 to 40 runs is enough to rediscover your rhythm. Whether it’s through a new or old approach, my goal remains the same—to score runs.”

Azam clarified that no formal discussions had been held with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors regarding future fixtures or strategies. “There’s no rule that I must always open in T20 internationals,” he said, keeping his options open.

The star batter also commented on the overall PSL X experience, saying, “We’re enjoying our time in the league, especially the fireworks and atmosphere at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.”

He concluded by praising his team, Peshawar Zalmi, for their tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces. “Our team proudly acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of the military in defending the country,” he said.
