The National Assembly has unanimously approved a resolution to raise the upper age limit for Central Superior Services (CSS) exams from 30 to 35 years, granting candidates an additional five years to apply.

Introduced by PML-N MNA Nausheen Iftikhar, the resolution also recommended allowing up to five attempts at the exam—an initiative aimed at expanding access to civil services for a broader population.

The motion garnered support across party lines during Friday’s session, highlighting a shared view that the current age restriction is outdated and particularly challenging for those facing educational, economic, or regional disadvantages.

Supporters of the move argued that individuals pursuing higher education or affected by limited opportunities should not be penalized by rigid age criteria.

Though the session was adjourned until Monday at 5 p.m., the resolution has already sparked debate among aspirants and lawmakers, with many viewing it as a necessary and overdue step.

If enacted, the reform could significantly alter the civil service entry landscape in Pakistan, offering renewed hope to thousands of qualified candidates previously barred due to age limits.
