In a major move towards digital governance, NADRA has launched a nationwide Digital Birth and Death Registration System, allowing hospitals and healthcare centers to directly record life events in the national database.

Part of the broader Uraan Pakistan initiative, the system is designed to modernize civil registration and strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure. Developed under the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework with support from the World Bank, it marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation.

With this system, healthcare facilities across Pakistan can now register births and deaths in real-time, ensuring up-to-date and accurate national records. The data will also feed into digital identity efforts and contribute to the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP).

Implementation agreements have already been signed with Sindh and Balochistan, while similar partnerships are expected with Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan soon.

In tandem, NADRA has introduced a new public service initiative offering free non-chip CNICs to first-time applicants. The simplified process ensures delivery within 15 working days, aiming to improve accessibility and identity coverage nationwide.
