Samsung May Replace the Galaxy S26+ With a New Model

Samsung May Ditch Galaxy S26+ in Favor of Slimmer ‘Edge’ Model, Say Early Reports

Just hours after officially unveiling the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung is already at the center of speculation regarding the future of its flagship lineup. According to industry sources in South Korea, Samsung may eliminate the Galaxy S26+ model from its 2026 lineup, replacing it with an enhanced version of the Edge variant.

Galaxy S26 Lineup May Get a Reshuffle

If the rumors prove true, the Galaxy S26 family would consist of:

  • Galaxy S26
  • Galaxy S26 Edge
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra

This move would mark a major departure from Samsung’s traditional three-tier flagship strategy, which has included a “Plus” model since the Galaxy S8 series.

Poor Sales Performance Behind Possible Decision

Insiders suggest that underwhelming sales of the S25+ are a key factor in this potential shift. Internal projections for 2025 forecast:

  • 17.4 million units of the Galaxy S25 Ultra
  • 13.6 million units of the base Galaxy S25
  • Only 6.7 million units for the S25+

With the Plus variant trailing significantly, Samsung may be seeking a more attractive mid-tier option in the form of a thinner, more refined Galaxy S26 Edge.

Edge Variant to Replace the Plus Model?

Should Samsung proceed with this strategy, the Galaxy S26 Edge could fill the void left by the S26+. The Edge model is expected to:

  • Feature a slimmer profile
  • Offer distinct design cues
  • Possibly integrate advanced battery tech like silicon-carbon (Si/C) solutions to compensate for reduced space

This change aligns with Apple’s reported plan to replace the iPhone Plus with a thinner iPhone 17 Air, suggesting a broader industry trend toward slim, high-performance mid-tier devices.

Still Under Development

Samsung has yet to confirm any changes, and all decisions regarding the Galaxy S26 lineup remain under review. As product development continues, the company may adjust its strategy based on market dynamics and consumer feedback.

For now, no official statement has been issued, and all reports should be treated as preliminary speculation.
