Pakistan and India exchanged one prisoner each at the Wagah-Attari border on Wednesday, in a rare moment of cooperation between the two neighbors amid heightened regional tensions. The handover took place under tight security and through prior diplomatic coordination.
Indian Border Security Force constable Purnam Kumar Shah was released by Pakistan and handed over to Indian authorities. In return, India repatriated Muhammad Allah, a Punjab Rangers official who had been in its custody. The reasons behind their crossing into each other’s territory remain undisclosed.

This development comes a day after Pakistan strongly condemned what it called “provocative and inflammatory” remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Islamabad accused the Indian leader of spreading misinformation and warned that such rhetoric could further destabilize the region.
The Pakistani Foreign Office emphasized that recent ceasefire understandings were the result of diplomatic efforts, not desperation, and reiterated its commitment to maintaining regional peace through dialogue.
