PTA Warns Unregistered Mobile Phones Pose National Security Risk

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning regarding the use of unregistered mobile phones, highlighting their potential threat to national security.

A spokesperson from the PTA mentioned that the rising use of unregistered devices in cybercrimes and financial fraud is a serious concern. As a result, joint operations between the PTA and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been ramped up to curb this issue.

The sale and purchase of fake, cloned, and JV (joint venture) mobile phones are strictly prohibited. Individuals involved in selling unregistered mobile phones will face arrest and prosecution, with the devices being confiscated.

Under the Cyber Crime Act of 2016, the use of illegal devices is considered a punishable offense. Authorities have urged the public to report any such activities to the FIA. Additionally, mobile phones that are not registered through the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) will be blocked.
