Mohammad Amir Reflects on Key Dismissal of Babar Azam in PSL 10

Quetta Gladiators’ veteran pacer Mohammad Amir has reflected on his crucial role in dismissing Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam during their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 match on Sunday at Gaddafi Stadium. Amir, who had earlier dismissed Babar for a duck in the first encounter between the two teams, continued his dominance, this time trapping the Pakistan skipper leg-before with an in-swinger in the third over of Zalmi’s innings.

Amir’s reaction following the dismissal added excitement to an already intense match. As he celebrated, the left-arm pacer made a unique gesture toward the Gladiators’ dugout, a moment that caught the attention of both fans and players.

In the post-match press conference, Amir was asked about dismissing Babar for the second time in the tournament. He discussed the importance of rivalries in T20 cricket, noting that such moments enhance the entertainment value for fans. “Whether on the field or on social media, these rivalries entertain people, especially in T20s—that’s the main goal,” Amir stated. “As a bowler, my role is to tease the batter and show aggression, while the batter aims to score runs. These things should happen, but within limits.”

Despite the fierce rivalry, Amir expressed respect for Babar Azam, calling him a “big player.” He also shared his tactical approach, explaining that he aimed to use the swing of the new ball to his advantage. “Babar Azam is a big player, there is no doubt in that. My plan is always to utilize the swing with the new ball. I thought Babar would be prepared for the outswinger, so I tried to bring it back in.”

Amir’s key breakthrough, alongside Faheem Ashraf’s remarkable five-wicket haul, was instrumental in Quetta Gladiators securing a 64-run victory over Peshawar Zalmi. The victory has kept the Gladiators firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot in PSL 10, with their potent bowling attack proving crucial to the result.
