PSL 2025: Islamabad United Extend Dominance with Comfortable Win Over Multan Sultans

Islamabad United have strengthened their grip at the top of the PSL 2025 points table, securing a commanding win over Multan Sultans at the Multan Cricket Stadium. This marks United’s fifth consecutive victory in the season, underlining their title credentials.

Gous Leads the Chase with Unbeaten 80

Chasing a target of 169 under lights, Islamabad United showcased their batting depth once again. American wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous stole the spotlight, smashing an unbeaten 80 off just 45 balls, featuring six fours and five sixes. His composed yet explosive innings ensured United chased down the target in just 17.1 overs.

The chase got off to a strong start, thanks to quickfire contributions from Sahibzada Farhan (22) and Colin Munro (45), setting the platform for a smooth finish. By the time Mohammad Nawaz departed in the 17th over, United were already within touching distance of victory.

Multan’s Inconsistent Batting Continues

Opting to bat first, Multan Sultans appeared in control during the early stages. Usman Khan played fluently for his 61 off 40 deliveries, while captain Mohammad Rizwan contributed a more cautious 36 off 37 balls. Their 65-run stand laid a solid foundation, but the inability to accelerate in the death overs proved costly.

Islamabad’s bowling unit kept striking at critical junctures, with Mohammad Nawaz and Jason Holder taking a wicket apiece. Shadab Khan, though expensive late in the innings, delivered a tight spell that restricted Multan to a sub-par total.

What’s Next in PSL 2025

With five wins in five, Islamabad United are all but guaranteed a place in the next round. Their form has been clinical, with both bat and ball contributing equally to their dominance.

For Multan Sultans, the season continues to unravel. With just one win in five matches and a negative net run rate, their path to the playoffs now appears steep and uncertain.

Next Fixture: The action resumes tomorrow with Lahore Qalandars set to face Peshawar Zalmi, a key match as both teams look to climb the standings.
