A sudden hailstorm hit Islamabad and Rawalpindi earlier this week, severely damaging vehicles and triggering a sharp rise in demand and prices for auto glass.

The unexpected storm left cars with broken windshields, shattered mirrors, and dented roofs. As car owners rushed to repair their vehicles, major auto markets reported stock shortages.

Shopkeepers in Rawalpindi confirmed they’ve run out of standard windscreens, with prices doubling or even tripling. A windshield that once cost Rs. 15,000 is now being sold for up to Rs. 35,000, while smaller glass pieces have jumped from Rs. 100–200 to nearly Rs. 1,000.

Due to overwhelming demand, suppliers have halted new orders, and most shops are currently out of stock. Traders in Saddar say only luxury vehicle windshields remain available — with recent price hikes of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000.
