Rain, Thunderstorms Forecast Across Pakistan; PDMA Issues Alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rain and thunderstorms across various regions of the country, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Islamabad, Murree, Galiyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir through April 20.

Rain Expected from Wednesday Evening

According to the forecast, intermittent rainfall will begin across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Wednesday evening, continuing until Sunday, April 20. Thunderstorms with rain are expected in the northern, central, and southern regions of the province. Some areas may also experience hailstorms, especially in upper regions.

PDMA Issues Precautionary Alert

In response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert to all district administrations across KP. Relevant departments have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure road connectivity in the event of landslides or flooding. Authorities have been instructed to provide alternate routes where necessary and stay prepared for emergency response.

The PDMA also advised tourists planning to visit scenic spots to check weather conditions and road status in advance by calling the official helpline, to avoid getting stranded during unstable weather.

Rain, Hail Expected in Other Regions

Rainfall is also forecast in Islamabad, Punjab, Murree, Galiyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, with potential for hailstorms in some areas. The changing weather pattern is expected to bring temporary relief from the dry spell experienced in recent days.

Heatwave to Persist in South Pakistan

While northern areas brace for wet weather, the heatwave will continue in Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan until April 18, with high temperatures persisting.

Dust Storm and Strong Wind Warning

On April 18 and 19, dust storms and strong winds are likely to hit multiple districts, including:

  • Dera Ghazi Khan
  • Rajanpur
  • Layyah
  • Kot Addu
  • Muzaffargarh
  • Bahawalpur
  • Multan
  • Sahiwal
  • Khanewal
  • Pakpattan
  • Vehari
  • Okara

Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, especially during outdoor activities and travel.
