Noor Zaman Clinches U23 Squash Title in Karachi Thriller

Pakistan’s Noor Zaman has made history by winning the Under-23 World Squash Championship, defeating Egypt’s Karim El Turky 3-2 in a nail-biting final at Karachi’s DA Creek Club. The intense five-game battle saw Zaman emerge as champion, earning praise for his resilience and skill on home soil.

The young squash star credited his hard-earned victory to both dedication and divine support. His win marks a significant step forward for Pakistan’s squash scene, once globally dominant but now working toward a revival.

In the women’s final, Egypt’s top seed Fairooz Aboulkheir outclassed Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk in straight sets (3-0) to claim her title. Both winners walked away with gold medals, trophies, and prize money of $5,250, while runners-up received silver medals and $3,450 each.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari extended their congratulations to Zaman, hailing his victory as a proud moment for the nation. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, speaking at the closing ceremony, called the event a “milestone in squash history” and reaffirmed government support for sports development.

The inaugural U23 championship has been widely regarded as a positive sign for the future of squash in Pakistan, with the success of local athletes sparking renewed hope for a resurgence in the sport.
