An Islamabad sessions court on Thursday issued a notice to the FIA regarding journalist Waheed Murad’s plea challenging his physical remand.

A day earlier, a magistrate had approved Murad’s two-day physical remand and handed him over to the FIA.

Murad was arrested earlier this week under PECA from his residence, where his mother-in-law was also present. He was later presented in court over allegations of spreading fake news.

During the hearing, Murad’s lawyer, Imaan Mazari, urged the court to annul the magistrate’s order and place him under judicial remand. However, the judge advised her to approach the high court, despite her argument that the sessions court had jurisdiction.

After hearing arguments, the court directed the FIA to submit its response by tomorrow.

Previously, the prosecution claimed Murad had shared a post linked to a banned Balochistan group and required further investigation. They also sought his mobile phone’s recovery.

Murad faces charges under PECA sections 9 (glorification of an offence), 10 (cyber terrorism), 20 (malicious code), and 26.
