Islamabad United Appoints Ian Butler as Bowling Coach for PSL 10
Defending Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions, Islamabad United, have named former New Zealand cricketer Ian Butler as their new bowling coach for the upcoming PSL 10 season. The appointment follows the departure of Azhar Mahmood, who steps away due to his ongoing role with the Pakistan national men’s team.
In a statement, Islamabad United expressed gratitude for Mahmood’s contributions as both a player and a coach while welcoming Butler to the team.

Ian Butler’s Excitement to Join Islamabad United
Butler, who represented New Zealand in eight Tests, 26 ODIs, and 19 T20Is between 2002 and 2013, shared his excitement about coaching in Pakistan for the first time.
“I’m really excited to be part of Islamabad United for PSL 10. This will be my first experience coaching in Pakistan, and I’ve heard great things about the passion for cricket here.”
He also praised Islamabad United’s rich PSL legacy and expressed his eagerness to work with the bowling squad to help the team compete for another title.
“Islamabad United has a fantastic legacy in the PSL, and I’m looking forward to working with the talented bowling group to help the team push for another title.”
Acknowledging Azhar Mahmood’s Contributions
Butler also took a moment to acknowledge his predecessor, Azhar Mahmood, who played a key role in Islamabad United’s success, winning PSL 1 in 2016 as a player and PSL 2024 as an assistant coach.
“I’d also like to acknowledge Azhar Mahmood, who has done a fantastic job with this team, and I hope to continue building on that.”
With PSL 10 approaching, Islamabad United looks forward to benefiting from Butler’s expertise as they aim for another championship title.
