Islamabad saw heightened tensions near a mosque in Abpara Market amid the ongoing Jamia Hafsa Madrassa dispute.

Umme Hassan, wife of Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, was arrested and remanded by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) over charges related to firing at police and CDA staff. The court extended her remand for three days, requiring her to appear again on March 3.

She faces multiple charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Pakistan Penal Code due to a land dispute over a seminary. Umme Hassan claimed she was in talks with authorities before her arrest. The court also acknowledged her past legal cases, which her lawyer will address.

Maulana Aziz and his followers, armed with weapons, have threatened violent retaliation against police and paramilitary forces if an arrest is attempted. Protesters have brandished weapons and chanted slogans, further intensifying the volatile situation around Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa.

Despite the rising unrest, authorities have refrained from forceful action. The Islamabad administration stated that negotiations are ongoing, though Lal Masjid representatives claim talks have stalled over alleged demands for the seminary’s demolition—claims not yet confirmed by officials.
