The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet in Peshawar today (Friday) to observe the Ramadan moon, marking the potential beginning of the holy month. The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 pm, will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad following the Asr prayer. As customary, zonal committees across the country will hold their own meetings to monitor moon sighting reports.
However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has expressed concerns regarding the likelihood of sighting the moon due to cloudy weather. The Met Office forecast suggests that Peshawar and surrounding regions in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will experience partly cloudy conditions over the next 24 hours, diminishing visibility.

The PMD further highlighted that at sunset today, the moon will be approximately 12 hours old, with an angular separation from the sun of about five degrees. These factors make it difficult for the moon to be visible to the naked eye, reducing the chances of confirming the start of Ramadan on Friday.
Religious scholars from different schools of thought will participate in the central session to provide diverse perspectives on the moon sighting. The final decision on the start of Ramadan will be announced by the committee, considering both physical sightings and reports from across Pakistan.
